Girls Weekend on Captiva Island

My friend, Sue-Anne and I spent a wonderful weekend on Captiva Island in February. Michael was out of the country for work so it was a perfect opportunity for a Girls trip. We stayed at Tween Waters Resort which is one of my favorite places in Florida.
We rented a cottage instead of a regular hotel room.  We arrived in the dark, Thursday evening February 16, so we didn't see how cute our cottage was until the next morning.  We were right across the street from the beach and the Gulf of Mexico and we could hear the waves from the back porch.  It was a little slice of heaven on earth!
We stayed in the Roosevelt Cottage which is an old house that has been there for 70 years and supposedly was visited by president Roosevelt back in the day.

The cottage was just the right size: a one bedroom, one bath with a small kitchen and beautiful screened in back porch. The bed was super comfortable, but so high, we had to use a kitchen chair and stepstool to get in & out of bed which was fun.

Since we arrived so late the first night, we had cheese & gluten free crackers, fruit & veggies and a bottle of Dom for dinner while we enjoyed the rocking chairs and the screened in back porch.
Every morning we had tea and coffee on the porch and then more cheese and bubbly at sunset before dinner.

Friday we walked the beach and collected seashells. The surf was a bit rough, but Sue-Anne was brave and took a brief swim before heading back to the cottage to get ready to go out to dinner.
Saturday was another great day on the beach with our beach chairs & umbrella. It was fun watching the birds & collecting more shells before the evening rain rolled in.

Friday night we celebrated at the Captiva House restaurant. Great seafood & sorbet!!
Saturday we had dinner at Thistle Lodge on Sanibel. The cocktails and desserts were the best!

Our last morning walk on the beach. Fifteen minutes one way & 15 back...We didn't want to leave.  Hopefully we can turn this into a yearly tradition.
